Updating and maintaining different parts of your blog or WP website is important. These include the theme, content, images, presentation style, social networking or link building. The point of these maintenance duties is to improve the reader’s experience and gain more traffic.
Checking for and removing broken links are essential parts of site maintenance. Your content and images most often carry links that direct the reader to other websites. We call these outbound links. These outbound links are normal occurrences, but sometimes they go to non-existing or missing pages, resulting in an error notification. When this happens, you will instantly know that your outbound links are broken.
You should immediately remove broken links from your site, as they have serious effects on your website’s ranking on search engine results pages. Broken links hinder search engines from completely indexing the contents of your site. It can also upset your users, which in turn hurt your brand image.
There are many broken link-checking programs these days, like Xenu’s Link Sleuth and W3C Link Checker. To improve your website’s functionality and correct or remove broken links on your WordPress site, follow the steps below.
