There are few really great WordPress themes for blogging. Which is surprising when you realize that WordPress was created with bloggers in mind.
WordPress has changed into a very different beast over the years, so much so that many have virtually forgot what it was initially created for – an easy to use blogging platform.
While themes for bloggers are far and few between, there is an explosion of corporate and business themes hitting the theme clubs virtual shelves on a daily basis.
I have curated this list as an attempt to rectify this injustice, here I only list the very best WordPress themes for bloggers – I hope you find one you like!
Bloggy is a modern theme designed with bloggers in mind, and comes pre-packed with 2 varying styles. This theme has 11 custom widgets, supports all post formats, has an advanced administration panel, and has been designed for great readability. Without a doubt my favorite element (and I think its a first) is the ability to add a spoiler alert to your article where the user must agree to view the text in its entirety before being shown it – great if you are writing about films, TV, or specifically the 6th sense 🙂
This is perhaps my favorite theme release specifically for bloggers this year, in fact I believe I will be using the theme on my personal blog when it launches in October.
The theme offers an unbelievable amount of options (as I have come to expect from My Theme Shop) – and is advertised as the fastest loading theme available (not sure about this, but it looks fantastic).
Does this theme remind you of a blog you have seen somewhere?
This is one of my favorite child themes built for the Genesis Framework. The theme offers a great opportunity for personal branding and is already used by some of content marketing’s elite marketers such as Virante.
The theme offers five different color options, and numerous page layouts as default. If I were looking for a great theme for blogging then the Eleven40 Pro would definitely be on my shortlist.
Price: $99.95 (Includes Genesis Framework)
This particular child theme comes fully stocked with a number of back-end option, PSD files, custom shortcodes & a landing page template to ensure your blog gets the look you are after.
Price: $79 (this gives you full membership for 1 year to the club, but Genesis or Thesis framework must be purchased separately)
Solar is a modern fully responsive blogging theme that offers a truly amazing reading experience for your visitors. Comes fully loaded with over 300 stunning icons from font awesome and has a sidebar manager built right in as a widget.
A nice clean theme ideal for those looking for something simple and understated.
The theme offers fantastic readability and simplicity all in one – without being over the top minimal.
Seashell is a great example of a modern blogging theme. You can choose whether to have the image and text below the header or remove that section altogether.
The theme is easy to set up, and has more options than you can shake a stick at – better to look on the release page for the full list (we are on a tight schedule here!)
A great example of this theme being used can be found on one of my favorite marketing blogs Finch Sells (check it out)
This theme has actually been around for quite sometime, and is not to everybody’s taste.
Similar to the Seashell theme (above).
If you want something minimal without reducing your blog to a blank canvas then you may want to consider spicing it up with some fantastic images to convey your content.
Now this is a minimal blogging experience! But all is not quite as dull as it seems.
Buzzblog offers an unusually high number of shortcodes, custom widgets, Google fonts (pre-loaded), and unlimited CSS styles with 11 predefined CSS customization’s to choose from if you are not comfortable creating your own.
Looking to build your personal brand through your WordPress blog? Generate Pro has been specifically designed to help you do this.
Build your list with a simple design that will convert your visitors into loyal fans.

Arguably the most popular purchased theme on the whole of WP Squared! This theme offers a fantastic canvas for almost any type of content based website, and come with a fantastic array of options (see the live demo of options)
I have personally used this theme for a number of different projects (normally design based) and I have had no complaints.
The theme comes loaded with backend options to help you manipulate almost every element of the template without knowing any code.
A modern theme built for storytelling.
Choose exactly how you want your featured stories to display (and how many) from the administration panel.
This is a bit of a tech theme, but also ideal for many projects besides.
A blogging theme that smells of a news website!
This theme offers those interested in displaying banner ads on their website numerous options to do so, as well as the ability to change the logo from the options panel.
Come pre-loaded with 8 different colored skins.
This is a theme developed specifically for review websites that offer affiliated products to their readers. So many options it is difficult to express in under 50 words, so you had best just check it out!
As better themes are released specifically designed for bloggers I will add them to this list, however there are many alternatives currently available out there if none of the above have ‘tickled your fancy’.
It is a shame that more theme designers do not specialize in creating great blogging themes as it is these themes that I believe people want the most.
